I had so much fun participating in the Calling it Home Blog's One Room Challenge last fall, I thought I would do it again for the Spring 2017 go-round.
We moved into a new house in January this year, and it truly is a blank slate. I have decided my game plan is to literally go room by room to get the new house decorated.
Additionally, our family welcomed a new baby boy, George Anthony Campbell III, on March 29th, so I decided to work on his room first.
My friend, artist Charles Pate, used to teach at my little art studio, Vino and van Gogh for a brief stint before he moved to Columbia, South Carolina. He brought me this Sorolla-inspired painting to teach a class on, and I fell in love with the little study. I have kept it for about five years knowing that if I ever had a boy, I would design a nursery around it.

(my favorite spot for framing in Greenville, SC - this frame was ready made from remnants and it is the perfect companion for the painting!)
I am a huge fan of the Impressionist School, and a few years back when my husband and I went to Spain, we visited Sorolla's home in Madrid.
It is now a museum for his work. This painting is a reminder of that fantastic trip, my love of sailing, and of Sorolla's work.
Here is the original, The Young Yachtsman, by Sorolla, 1909
When I say that this room is a shell, I am quite serious. Here are some before snaps of the space.
Pros: Good Light, interesting details (the reading nook, double pained trim!)
An old painting of mine, a lamp I fell in love with at T.J. Maxx, and Bambi Chair from Kamina & C that adds some 'boyish' accent to the room.
A dresser that is probably too tall to be a changing table and random 'boyish' art from all the art I have tucked under beds and in closets.
I also created a Pinterest Inspiration Board for the Nursery. I hope it ends up being helpful to see the fabrics, wall color, and other details side by side in one place so that I can have a good visual of the direction of the room before everything is installed.
The first order of business is to order up some fabrics to have Roman Shades, Pillows for the Window Seat, and a large Window Seat Cushion made. My friend, interior designer Amanda Louise Campbell, is helping me get all of the pillows, window coverings, and little window seat made with her team of seamstresses.
I created the Blue Wave Fabric from a Blue and White Watercolor that will be used to construct the Roman Shades.
And I found this Light Blue Sailboat Fabric that one side of the window seat will be upholstered in. I am going to create the rest of the seat in a Chambray so that when the baby gets a little older, I can flip the seat and make it not look so 'babyish'.

Luminary Yarn Dyed Chambray Fabric for the edges, cording, and one side of the window seat from Fabric.com
I found this Nautical Rope Fabric on Spoonflower and ordered up yardage to use for some pillows.
I think starting with the fabrics is a smart idea for the space: they can inform my color decisions for the room, and then color can inform details.
Next week I will be talking about a special Monogramming Collaboration with one of my favorite recent Instagram finds: Wink Mary Flowers. If you love a good monogram, you won't want to miss this post!
Thank you for following along and I hope you check in next week for the monogram frenzy!!!
